UNITED GUILDS’ SERVICE AND LUNCH – FRIDAY 19 MARCH 2010.
This impressive Service, an act of worship by the robed and badged City en masse, will be celebrated in St Paul’s Cathedral on Friday 19th March 2010. Entry to the Cathedral will be by signed ticket only, and application must be made to me. Due to the numbers that attend every year – the Cathedral is packed - only liverymen are eligible to apply for tickets, although spouses of Court Members may also attend. There are a few tickets for the Company Pew (Row 50), and some for the open seats in the aisles and transepts. The latter offer an excellent view for those who get there early.
Everyone must be seated by 1055 at the latest, and the procession starts at 1115.
Lunch is at Painters’ Hall, a custom we have followed for many years. There are perhaps a dozen livery companies who share this privilege, each taking half a table or so with the Painters’ great and good on the top table, and it is a cheerful and welcoming meal which often manages to provoke some friendly inter- company banter. The cost, including wine and VAT, is £51 a head. Freeman may apply for tickets to lunch even though they may not attend the Service. A small number of guests will be welcome. You should be at the Hall 1300 for about 1330, although the latter depends on the sermon!
